MANILA — The troops of the 69th Infantry (Cougar) Battalion, Philippine Army under the leadership of LTC Marcelo F Valdez Jr, Commanding Officer of this unit participated in the launching of Iron Fortified Rice (IFR) conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at Sitio Buguilis, Brgy Remedios, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur on November 24, 2021.
During the construction of the Iron Fortified Rice building, the troops of the 69IB have provided manpower assistance to the personnel of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) together with the BLGU and civilian volunteers.
LTC Valdez Jr, on his part, emphasized the commitment of the Philippine Army and the national government to end the local communist armed conflict.
“We want to resolve the issues affecting the different sectors of the society to include our treasured IP communities because they are also vulnerable to the exploitation and deception of the communist terrorists. We thank the DOST for the project and contributions to the anti-insurgency campaign. With our collaborative efforts, we will surely attain lasting peace,” LTC Valdez Jr. said.
The Acting Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army Brigadier General Luis Rex D. Bergante PA said that the Army supports the DOST’s project as part of the programs of RTF-ELCAC in Ilocos Sur.
“Sa pamamagitan ng proyektong ito, magkakaroon na ng fortified rice production ang Ilocos Sur kung saan malaking bagay ito sa pag-improved ng ating nutrisyon lalong lalo na sa mga bata,” said BGen Bergante. (ai/mtvn)
