MANILA — A senior police official drowned at sea after being slammed by waves and a strong water current in Surigao del Sur this morning.
In Camp Crame PNP Chief, Police General Dionardo B Carlos expressed the deepest condolences of the PNP to the orphaned family of Police Colonel Francisco D Dungo, 54, assigned at the PNP National Headquarters and a resident of Libertad, Butuan City.
“The PNP is saddened by the untimely demise of Police Colonel Dungo, a hardworking officer who has dedicated himself to a full-time career in the police service,” Carlos said adding,“ we join his family in prayer and mourning over his passing.”
Reports reaching the PNP Command Center disclosed that Dungo was swimming with his family and fellow church members in the beach fronting the family-owned resort in Purok Mutya, Barangay Arorogan, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur on Saturday morning.
An investigation report from the Marihatag Municipal Police Station revealed that Dungo was swimming in the deeper part when he was swept by tidal current and breaking waves causing him to drown.
Local surfers recovered his body and immediately performed CPR, he was later evacuated to the hospital where further attempts to revive him failed.
He was pronounced dead by Dr. Ivy Romanillos at the Marihatag District Hospital at 9:28 AM due to asphyxia secondary to drowning. (ai/mtvn)
