LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Two of the three armed suspects were killed by police operatives during a shootout at around 12:35 a.m. on Dec. 10, 2021, along the Lamut-Shilan Road in La Trinidad, Benguet.
According to a report from La Trinidad Police Station, the three suspects were members of a group involved in robbery holdup and car theft.
The suspects were aboard a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan with license plate WIN 580 attached to the rear portion of the vehicle. No license plate was attached on the back of the same vehicle, which was spotted by police operatives on board marked motor vehicles while traversing the national road in Barangay Tomay, La Trinidad.
Police operatives discovered that the attached license plate was stolen and originally assigned to another vehicle prompting them to call for reinforcement.
The suspects fired at the police operatives before they fled towards Lamut-Shilan Road.
A hot pursuit ensued until the suspects’ vehicle crashed at the roadside and the suspects fled by foot towards different directions while firing at the police officers, who eventually returned fire.
Police have yet to release the identities of the suspects. (ai/mtvn)
