MANILA — Eighteen people were killed while seven others were injured in the ravages of Typhoon Odette that began to landfall in Surigao del Norte on December 17.
At least 19 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP), who are assisting residents in CARAGA, also fell victim to its fury.
Based on PNP monitoring and local police reports, six people were killed from Region 6, seven from Region 7 or Central Luzon, and three from Region 13.
According to PNP Spokesman Roderick Alba, 3,746 personnel are deployed now that the country is in disaster mode while 5,586 personnel of the Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) are ready to respond at any time.
A total of 613 policemen are guarding the evacuation centers to ensure the safety of 95,906 evacuees while 211 policemen are in the vacated areas to ensure that there is no looting of the properties left by the evacuees.
Meanwhile, 19 PNP personnel from Region 10 and Region 13 were also affected by Typhoon Odette. (ai/mtvn)
