MANILA— The worldwide pandemic brought so many changes in people’s lives and for most celebrities, what used to be an extravagant occasion and lavish spending during birthdays, weddings and other events, has been trimmed down to simpler and practical happenings. They have learned to adapt to what is the new normal.
And so were in celebrity weddings.
Showbiz partners proved that amid the pandemic, they can still celebrate their union to prove their love and commitment to each other.
Rocco Nacino and Melissa Gohing
January 2021 started with a solemn wedding of Rocco Nacino and Melissa Gohing.
Two months after their engagement, Kapuso actor Rocco and volleyball star Melissa tied the knot in a naval-themed wedding held at BRP Davao del Sur LC602 Battleship.
Rocco is a Philippine Navy Reservist. They exchanged “I Dos” on January 21, 2021.
Gwen Zamora and David Semerad
The following month of February 13, 2021, Filipino-Italian actress Gwen Zamora became the wife of PBA cager David John Semerad in a civil rites in France.
Gwen and David were supposed to be married on June 6, 2020 but it was the height of the pandemic that they had to postpone it.
Their one-year-old son, Cooper John, was present at the wedding.
David has a twin brother, Anthony Semerad, who is also his teammate in the TNT basketball team Tropang Giga and eventually became the husband of actress Sam Pinto.
Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola
Also in February, (February 21, 2021), TV host-actor Luis Manzano married his long-time girlfriend Kapamilya actress Jessy Mendiola in an intimate ceremony at The Farm at San Benito in Lipa City, Batangas.
Present during the wedding were Luis’ parents, Edu Manzano and Lipa City Congresswoman Vilma Santos, and his stepfather Senator Ralph Recto. There were only 20 guests who were invited to witness the civil wedding ceremony.
The bride was stunning in her simple white long dress with her hair tied in a low neat bun while the groom was donned in pink suit.
The often wacky TV host became teary eyed and could not control his joy when he saw his bride Jessy walking down the aisle.
Luis and Jessy started their relationship in 2016 and then got engaged in December 2020.
Beth Tamayo and Adam Hutchinson
US-based actress BethTamayo and Adam Hutchinson married on March 3, 2021 in a civil wedding ceremony held at their home in Bay Area, San Francisco, California.
In an Instagram post, the actress said, “We even used a toolbox as our laptop stand! So classy!”
Sam Pinto and Anthony Semerad
Sam Pinto got married to Anthony Semerad, David’s twin brother in a wedding by the bay on March 8, 2021 at the Conrad Manila’s roof deck.
Perhaps, it could be said that it was the smallest wedding ceremony as it was witnessed by only four guests. Also, the simple reception was held with the sun set and Manila Bay as the backdrop.
The couple was engaged in November 2019 and they have a baby girl who was born on September 1, 2021.
Bianca King and Ralph Wintle
In an Instagram post dated June 4, Bianca King wrote, “Exactly what we wanted. Low-key, quick, inexpensive, stress-free and barefoot. Nothing beats the comfort of your own home.”
She was pertaining to her wedding with Ralph Wintle at their home in Sydney, Australia.
The actress did not give further details of the simple wedding ceremony that was held in their living room.
Ralph is the younger brother of Ben Wintle, the husband of actress Iza Calzado.
Rachel Peters and Migz Villafuerte
Former beauty queen Rachel Peters became Mrs. Villafuerte when she married Camarines Sur Governor Migz Villafuerte on July 17, 2021 in a civil wedding at Supreme court in Manila presided by Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Gaerlan.
The couple got engaged in November 2019, but they had to postpone the wedding because of the pandemic.
Yam Conception and Miguel Cu-Unjieng
The Kapamilya actress Yam Concepcion married her long-time boyfriend, New York based Miguel Cu-Unjieng on July 24, 2021 in a civil ceremony held aboard a yacht that sailed on the Hudson river in New York City after six years of long-distance relationship.
Both were in their simple wedding attire. Yam was lovely in her while wedding dress, without headdress but a hat. And instead of bouquet of flowers, she carried her pet dog, Tiny. Miguel was likewise in his simple blazer and inner shirt.
Angel Locsin and Neil Arce
Angel Locsin and Neil Arce could have been tied the knot in a grand wedding celebration on November 8, 2020 but was cancelled because of the pandemic.
Neil said that he promised to give his bride her “dream wedding” because Angel did not experience going to prom and having a debut.
Despite the postponement, Angel began her road to forever with Neil in a civil wedding ceremony officiated by Taguid Mayor Lino Cayetano on July 26, 2021.
What was supposed to be a wedding gown, Angel became a cool bride dressed in a white top, black jeans and sneakers on her big day, while Neil was in black and white outfit of the day.
Angel and Neil made their relationship public in February 2018, and got engaged in June 2019.
Mark Herras and Nicole Donesa
The first Starstruck male grand winner Mark Herras and Nicole Donesa started their road to forever as husband and wife on September 8, 2021. The exchanged “I Dos” in a simple civil wedding officiated by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
In the couple’s YouTube vlog, they said it was a spur-of-the-moment decision that there were only five people who witnessed their wedding.
The planned was to have the civil wedding last year, but due to pandemic and Nicole’s American citizenship, they needed to settle things first.
Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo
The female counterpart of Mark Herras, the first Starstruck grand winner Jennylyn Mercado and long-time boyfriend Dennis Trillo finally tied the knot on November 15, 2021. The civil wedding ceremony was held at Kathryn Bernardo’s TGIS Studio in Quezon City officiated by Supreme Court Associate Justice Jhosep Lopez.
Jennylyn wore an all-white suit dress that matched her husband’s attire for their big day.
The long-time couple revealed in their YouTube vlog, the bloopers that happened on their wedding day, like bringing the wrong wedding ring box, the sudden rainfall and the one-hour delay of the ceremony. But for the couple, the mattered most was “Tuloy ang kasal.”
The couple announced their engagement to the public on October 29, 2021 and also Jen’s pregnancy.
