Sulu – The continued implementation of the Community Support Program by Army Special Forces troops have resulted in the voluntary surrender of two Abu Sayyaf Group members in Upper Sinumaan, Talipao, Sulu last January 1, 2022.

Brig. Gen. Eugenio Boquio, Brigade Commander of the 1101st Infantry received the surrenderers who were identified as 66-years-old Sibakkal “Tuan Mawang” Salahuddin and 49-year-old Isbain “Isbaen” Sakilan.

Members of the 6th Special Forces Company of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion have been continuously conducting Community Support Programs (CSP) to residents of Barangay Upper Sinumaan to enable a conducive environment favorable to government forces.

The CSP denies the insurgents critical resources and isolates them from mass support, hitting critical vulnerabilities that empower the enemy’s capabilities.

Boquio said that army troops have neutralized a total of 34 members of a Local Terrorist Group (LTG) in 2021 who were part of Abu Sayyaf and allied groups, Dawlah Islamiyah, and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

“We have captured six (6) of them with 20 surrenderers and nine (9) were killed in legitimate operations,” he disclosed. (ai/mtvn)
