LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu – Claiming of having daily zero cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the entire Cebu province and a nurse only fed an erroneous report, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan on Saturday said he will ask the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to rectify its Alert Level 3 classification of this highly-urbanized city still reeling from the damages brought by supertyphoon Odette.

“It was the fault of the nurse (encoder) nga nihatag og sayop nga data ngadto sa IATF (It was the nurse-encoder’s fault who sent a wrong data to the IAFT),” the mayor told reporters in a press conference. He did not identify the nurse.

Ironically, on December 7 last year Interior and Local Secretary Eduardo Año declared the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue in Cebu have received the much sought after herd immunity against Covid-19).

The two are among 23 highly urbanized cities in the country to have achieved the status.

The mayor further said that currently, the city’s hospital bed capacity is 47 while 53 beds were occupied with other sicknesses and not with Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) chief pathologist Dr. Jean Loreche said on Friday, January 7, that there was no Omicron variant case detected in this city.

She also confirmed that there was just a mistake in the encoding of numbers in terms of critical utilization rate in the hospitals in Lapu-Lapu City, which led the IATF to classify it under Alert Level 3.

“The admissions in LLC hospitals are non-Covid,” Loreche said. (ai/mtvn)
