MANILA — The perpetual disqualification by Surigao del Sur 1st District Rep. Propero Pichay has been decided with finality by the Supreme Court (SC) as the high court’s first division, junked the consolidated petitions filed by Pichay’s camp that questioned the ruling of the Ombudsman, the Sandiganbayan and the Court of Appeals.

The decision of the high tribunal against Pichay was contained in a 40-page resolution dated November 11, 2021, but was released only on Friday, January 14, 2022.

The tribunal said it found no merit in Pichay’s appeal to reverse the decisions issued by the Office of the Ombudsman, the CA, and the anti-graft court over his case stemming from the purchase by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) of about 445,377 shares of Express Savings Bank, Inc. (ESBI) which equates to his 60 percent voting stock amounting to P80 million.

Pichay served as acting board chairman of LWUA before. (ai/mtvn)
