Manila Zoo’s ‘senior citizen’ Mali afforded a bigger pen

A caretaker attends to an elephant named Mali at the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden in Malate, Manila on Wednesday.

Manila Zoo, which first opened in 1959, has been refurbished with elevated viewing decks and glass animal enclosures. The zoo doubles up now as a vaccination center for minors and senior citizens in the city, temporarily.

Mali, who has been living at the zoo for over four decades, was given a larger cage, as part of renovation works made last year. Kiara Lauren Ibanez/BENJAMIN CUARESMA/ai/mtvn)
