MANILA — The Philippine National Police is ready to implement the escalated alert level status for six areas starting today, January 28 until February 15, 2022.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) moved to upgrade the provinces of Palawan, Camiguin, Davao Occidental, Dinagat Islands, Tawi-Tawi, and Sulu to Covid Alert Level 3.

“We already have several provinces around the country that have been placed under the third strictest alert level protocol. The National IATF guideline is our framework in the exercise of our monitoring and enforcement efforts,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said.

Carlos said that it will now be up to the local chief executives of the affected provinces to issue their recalibrated policies.

Under Alert Level 3, some establishments are allowed to operate at 30% indoor venue capacity but exclusively for fully vaccinated people, and 50% outdoor venue capacity given that the employees are fully vaccinated.

Physical classes, contact sports, funfairs, arcades, and casinos are among the activities and establishments that are prohibited under Alert Level 3.

“If they choose to maximize our COMELEC-PNP-AFP checkpoints as a protocol inspection area for travelers, then the involved police units will be made to mobilize their police personnel to serve both purposes,” Carlos said.

Tighter measures are seen to help curb the further spread of the virus in these areas. The PNP appeals to the public to adhere to the minimum public health standards. (ai/mtvn)
