MANILA — The revitalization of leftist-sponsored unionism will be one of the highlights of the coalition government that is being hatched by Leni Robredo and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), according to intelligence sources.
One of the sources, who took part in the 2016 CPP-RPG peace process, said “the ultimate goal of the Communists is to gain strategic advantage by infiltrating, penetrating, and subverting the enemy’s stronghold from within.”
“By revitalizing and agitating the labor sector, the CPP-NPA aims to weaken the economy and the business climate by employing old techniques like rallies, boycotts, strikes, and other subversive activities that will turn off the investors and local businessmen,” he said.
The source added that “this is among the reasons why the Communists wanted to secure the Labor department as one of their prime cabinet positions in a Robredo presidency.”
Quoting an intelligence report, the source said that aside from the Labor portfolio Robredo also agreed to “hand over” the Departments of Trade and Industry (DTI), Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Interior and Local Government (DILG), Health (DOH), and Agriculture (DA) to members of the CPP cadres as part of their agreement to forge a coalition government.
“I don’t know where Sen. Ping Lacson got his intelligence report, but he is correct that Robredo’s rallies and sorties are infiltrated by members of the CPP legal fronts. They are taking shortcuts because it is clear that the lead of BBM (Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.) seems to be insurmountable at this point,” he added.
He cited the “coalition government” forged by then-president Cory Aquino with the Reds in 1986 where she appointed known Leftist personalities in the cabinet, which led to several coup attempts by the extreme Right Wing of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The cabinet positions are vital and strategic, “in the sense that it could tilt the balance of power and dictate the direction of the political and economic programs of the president,” the source added.
He said the Left, if and when they occupy the said positions, will try to “squeeze the investors and businessmen into a compromise” with the organized and highly politicized labor sectors, which in effect will strengthen Unionism, to the detriment of the economy.
The same source added that the Communist appointees will try to offset the projects of the government like the Build, Build, Build projects and foreign investments in preparation for a takeover.
On Saturday, President Duterte confirmed during an interview with Pastor Apollo Quiboloy that the “Dilawan’s” have forged ties with the CPP-NPA and there is the possibility of sabotage of the May 9, 2022 elections.
“Itong mga Dilawan tapos… I forgot the other one. ‘Yan ang ano ng gobyerno. They’re watching for that kind of situation,” he said.
Although Duterte assured that he would not allow any group to disrupt the polls, he said, “I cannot guarantee you that it will be peaceful. There will be one or two or three, and even (here in) Mindanao.” (ai/mtvn)
