MANILA — In taking a firmer stand in his bid for the presidency, Probinsya Muna Development Initiative (PROMDI) standard-bearer Sen. Manny Pacquiao stated that he believes the country’s next president should have the moral ascendancy to lead the Philippines back on its feet and full recovery from the calamities and crises it has been facing since the coronavirus pandemic started in early 2020.
In a statement, the People’s Champ outlined that some of his closest rivals in the presidential race lack the integrity to take the reins of governance because, at this point in time when the country is beset by corruption, leadership should set the example.
Pacquiao even cited one of his opponents who has a dubious track record owing to an alleged tax-related case.
The boxing icon warned the electorate about how this year’s polls are critical to the country’s agenda of recovery even as he criticized voters who knowingly supported in past elections candidates with blemished records or are known for being corrupt.
“Those who will vote for thieves running for office are the real stupid persons. I am not referring to any particular candidate but to all candidates, from the national down to the local level who are corrupt,” he pointed out. (ai/mtvn)
