School-based hydroponics garden in Old Balara nets P5K for 40 days

Forty-one-year-old Celso Macalingay, Jr., a teacher at Old Balara Elementary school, tends to the hydroponics garden set up at the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” project located at the school’s rooftop.

Vegetables like lettuce are planted in the garden which produces a good harvest of 5,000 pesos for 40 days.

Hydroponics is a type of horticulture and a subset of hydroculture that involves growing plants, usually crops, without soil, by using mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent.
