DOH CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY-BASED BLOOD DONATION DRIVES IN ILOCOS REGION

ILOCOS Region — The Department of Health (DOH)-Ilocos Region Regional Voluntary Blood Services Program (RVBSP) has successfully conducted a community-based mobile blood donation (CBMBD) drive in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur last March 10, 2022, collecting a total of 147 blood units.
The activity was the second blood donation drive conducted by the local government of Tagudin in coordination with the RVBSP for the first quarter of 2022 which makes the town the leading provider of blood supply in the region. Last January 21, 2022, a total of 206 blood units were collected during the first CBMBD.

“Community blood drive is the best way to bring people together with one objective – that is to save lives. When people voluntarily come together to donate blood it brings the community together for a good cause,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco emphasized.

“Ang dugo ay libre at dapat itong ibahagi sa mga nangangailangan. It is the most humane gesture that we can do and the also the simplest way to save a life.”

“While we continue our efforts to eliminate COVID-19 in the country, we call on more volunteers to help us replenish the country’s blood supply because the need for blood products never ceases,” Sydiongco stated.

The DOH-1 RVBSP regularly conducts mobile blood donation activities in support of the DOH’s mandate to provide an adequate supply of safe and non-remunerated blood supply for patients needing blood products.

The Regional Blood Center conducts regular blood donation activities and ensures a sufficient supply of blood products in the region.

“Napakaimportante po na ang pamimigay ng dugo ay magpatuloy upang lahat ng nangangailangan sa ating rehiyon ay ating mabigyan. Kami po ay nananawagan sa ating mga kababayan lalo na po sa ating mga kabataan na makibahagi sa ating mga isinasagawang blood donation drive upang patuloy po tayong makapaglistas ng buhay,” Sydiongco encouraged.

The RVBSP also conducted a mobile blood donation drive at the Philippine National Police Regional Training Center in Aringay, La Union on March 9, 2022, and was able to collect a total of 83 units of blood during the activity. (ai/mtvn)
