MANILA — According to the World Health Organization Global Disability Action Plan (2014-2021) Better Health for Persons with Disabilities, there is a need to strengthen and extend Habilitation and Rehabilitation including the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of health care and assistive technology.

One of the recommended actions is to expand and strengthen habilitation services. To fully equip and develop competence in conveying appropriate and effective healthcare-related communication and instruction to PWDs especially the deaf and speech impaired Training of Basic Filipino Sign Language needs to be conducted,

This aims to allow the efficient exchange of messages and information from the health care providers to their clients. To avoid inaccuracies and risks to the patients’ health and also liability to the health care providers.
