PH ARMY LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER AIR AMBULANCE

By Glen S. Ramos

TAGUIG City – On Monday, March 21, 2022, the Philippine Army launched its first-ever air ambulance.

It conducted an aerial medical evacuation simulation at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City, Metro Manila, on the same day.
The Army Aviation Regiment reconfigured the newly acquired Bolkow helicopter to boost the Army’s life-saving capabilities for combat-wounded troops.

The aircraft is manned by a critical care aeromedical team composed of military doctors, nurses, pilots, and flight crew.

An air ambulance covers the use of air transportation, airplane or helicopter, to move patients to and from healthcare facilities and accident scenes.

The medical team provides comprehensive prehospital and emergency and critical care to all types of patients during aeromedical evacuation or rescue operations aboard the helicopter.
The air ambulance may also be used to deliver further medical teams to the scene, transport equipment and blood, fly patients to the nearest hospital, or fly patients out of an area to relieve the local medical facilities. (ai/mtvn)
