POLICE INTERCEPT P27.6M SMUGGLED CIGARETTES, MALE SUSPECT ARRESTED

MANILA — Police authorities seized some P27.6 million pesos worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes on Wednesday morning and arrested one suspect at Aplaya, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.

Citing police reports, PNP Chief Dionardo B Carlos said a buy-bust operation conducted by the joint personnel of RSOG-RPDEU 11, Hagonoy Municipal Police Station, Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group (IMEG) in coordination with the Bureau of Customs led to the arrest of the suspect identified as TAPSAREN ALIBASA, male, 47-year-old, married and a resident of Davao del Sur after selling (6) packs of an alleged smuggled branded cigarettes to a police officer who acted as a poseur-buyer.

Seized from the suspect were 690 boxes of smuggled cigarettes in different brands with an estimated value of P27,600,000; one (1) unit 9mm Armscor with SN RIA1883143 pistol chamber loaded with one (1) 9mm live ammunition inserted with One (1) magazine loaded with seven (7) 9mm live ammunition, one (1) unit Caliber .45 Para-Ordnance with SN 218713 pistol chamber loaded with one (1) .45 live ammunition inserted with one (1) magazine loaded with three (3) .45 live ammunition, and two (2) magazines loaded with five (5) .45 live ammunition each magazine; and 15 pcs of 9mm live ammunition.

“I would like to give my commendation to the personnel of Davao del Sur police for this accomplishment as well as give my admiration to our partner agencies, the BOC for their unwavering support in our programs and apprehend those involved in illegal activities”, Carlos said.

The recovered pieces of evidence were now under the custody of the Bureau of Customs while the suspect was already detained at Hagonoy Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. (ai/mtvn)
