LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Acknowledging his firm stance to help the poor and distressed, a large urban poor group and a Muslim association have declared their support for Team Abtik leader and veteran journalist candidate Junex Doronio who is seeking the lone congressional seat of this highly urbanized city.

Upper Kagudoy (Basak) Darul Iman Urban Poor Association (UKDAIUPA) president Abdul Gafur “Allan” Namli and Lapu-Lapu City Islamic Propagation Center (LCIPC) chairman Abdurahim “Pastor” Lopez promised to help Doronio win as representative, saying that the 64-year-old journo is “the only one who can be easily approached with and quick to response to the people’s grievances.”

The LCIPC led by Lopez, a former born-again Christian pastor-turned-Balik Islam (Muslim revert) who is now an Imam (prayer leader of a mosque), expressed appreciation that Doronio has vowed to help them build a cemetery once he is elected as congressman.

Doronio — like action star Robin Padilla and award-winning musician Freddie Aguilar — is also a Balik Islam.

As this developed, Doronio has asked the authorities to look into the reported harassment of residents in a disputed property in Barangay Punta Engaño.

The Alterra Residences is being developed in the disputed property by the Sta. Lucia Realty & Development Inc. (SLRDI).

It can be recalled that last December, the residents have assailed the seeming arrogance of SLRDI for defying an order from the Office of the City Attorney which has given instruction to dismantle its guard house on a barangay road.

A perimeter fence was also built at the entrance of the Alterra Residences in Barangay Punta Engaño without permit from the Office of the Building Official (OBO).

Documents obtained by Maharlika TV showed that on October 13, 2021 Atty. James Allan C. Sayson, OIC of the Office of the City Attorney, wrote the management of Alterra Residences informing them that the guard house and perimeter fence were constructed without permit from the Office of the Building Official (OBO).

On October 20 last year, Sayson issued a second letter for demolition of the guard house but SLRDI general manager Gerardo Quintos reportedly received it on October 22.

Speaking for the affected residents, property claimant Potenciana “Monching” Daitol told Maharlika TV that Punta Engaño Barangay Captain Crisanto B. Estardo only shrugged off the residents’ complaint and ignored the letters of the City Attorney. (AI/MTVN)
