CEBU CITY — After weeks of extensive consultations with the proverbial grassroots, One Cebu — the largest political party in the country’s number one vote-rich province — on Tuesday formally announced its endorsement of former Senator Bongbong Marcos as their presidential candidate in the fast-approaching May 9 polls.

“One Cebu party has the honor to announce its decision to endorse the presidential bid of former Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.,” One Cebu party president and re-electionist Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia said in a statement.

One Cebu party members from Metro Cebu composed of seven cities, including Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Cebu City, and 44 municipalities applauded Garcia’s formal announcement to back BBM (monicker of the only son of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos) during their assembly at the Sky Hall of SM Seaside City.

Garcia said the party decision was reached following weeks of extensive consultations and discussions with their provincial, municipal, and barangay leaders all over the island province.

“We considered the differing opinions of party leaders advocating the causes of different presidential candidates, and have determined that the unity and strength of One Cebu, its ability to serve its constituents in the Province of Cebu, and ultimately, the interests of the Cebuanos are best served if we unite behind the leadership of BBM as President, and, as we have earlier announced, Mayor Sara Duterte as Vice President,” Garcia said.

With the full backing of One Cebu party, Borbon re-electionist Mayor Noel T. Dotillos and Vice Mayor Roy D. Melgo, and Lapu-Lapu City congressional candidate Junex Q. Doronio “fearlessly predicted” a landslide win of BBM-Sara in Cebu.

It can be recalled that on January 25, Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (BAKUD), the provincial party founded by Durano political family in the 5th District, had endorsed the BBM-Sara tandem.

Garcia and former Tourism Secretary Ace Durano are slugging it out in the gubernatorial race.

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama, who heads Partido Barug in coalition with PDP Laban, has also officially endorsed the BBM-Sara tandem.

Cebu province, including its independent cities, have the most number of voters in the country with over 3.2 million registered to vote in the 2022 national elections. (ai/mtvn)
