MANILA — With doubts persisting about the integrity of overseas absentee voting (OAV), PROMDI presidential candidate Sen. Manny Pacquiao wants the investigation to be made public by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to guarantee transparency and ensure the voice of the electorate is heard in the upcoming polls in May.
Poll watchdog Kontra Daya had earlier insisted that Comelec should act urgently on alleged irregularities in the OAV, particularly the reported issuance of pre-shaded ballots.
According to Kontra Daya convenor Danilo Arao, Comelec should take these reports seriously and not just rely on the blanket denial of certain officials who initially dismissed the reports on tampered ballots.
In reply, Comelec commissioner George Garcia last week said that he would raise the issue with the entire commission and ask for an investigation of the alleged irregularities and to this, the People’s Champ expressed it was welcome news, especially if it would be open to public scrutiny. (ai/mtvn)
