The country’s high poverty incidence that it will ostensibly inherit poses as a major challenge for the next administration after the May 9, 2022, national and local elections.
Before the pandemic, the Duterte administration had targeted to end 2022 with
a lower poverty incidence rate of 15.5 percent from 17.5 percent.
Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, the poverty rate skyrocketed after millions of employees lost their jobs and businesses went kaput.
The featured image above is a perfect picture of a homeless young family, who may have been displaced no thanks to the pandemic and is now constantly moving from one place to another looking for a better, safer shelter to spend the night away.
