Batac, Ilocos Norte — The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC), a retained-hospital of the Department of Health (DOH) Ilocos Region started administering the second booster shot or fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccines to healthcare workers who are immunocompromised, ages 18 years old and above on April 24, 2022.

The MMMH&MC Vaccination team has set up a vaccination center inside the facility to accommodate all immunocompromised individuals from the community.

Regional Paz M. Sydiongco stated that the second COVID-19 booster shot will only be given to health workers with primary immune deficiencies as per recommendation by the Technology Assessment Council.

“The second booster dose is to provide them better protection against the virus, especially against severe and critical infection.

Among the eligible immunocompromised persons include those who have cancer, recipients of organ transplants, and HIV/AIDS patients.

The rollout of the targeted second booster vaccination is part of the National Government’s public health response to mitigate COVID-19 transmission, especially in light of the continued emergence of new variants and as the country continues to strengthen its vaccination efforts against the Covid virus.

Among the Covid-19 vaccines that can be used as a second booster dose and with approved Emergency Used Authorizations (EUAs) from the Philippine Food and Drug Association are Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac, Sinopharm and AstraZeneca. (ai/mtvn)
