CARLOS ORDERS HOT PURSUIT OPS OF SUSPECTS BEHIND BUS EXPLOSION IN PARANG, MAGUINDANAO

MANILA — The Philippine National Police is mobilizing all available security forces in pursuit operations against persons believed responsible for a bus bombing incident in Parang, Maguindanao on Sunday morning.

PNP Chief, Police General Dionardo B Carlos ordered Bangsamoro PNP Regional Director, Police Brigadier General Arthur R Cabalona to further intensify checkpoint operations, police visibility patrols, and focused intelligence and law enforcement to arrest and identify the suspects behind the incident.

Initial reports indicate that an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded inside the back portion of Rural Bus Tour with a body no. 10738 bound for Dipolog City from General Santos City at around 6:40 AM of April 24, 2022, while traveling along the national highway in Brgy Making, Parang, Maguindanao with 23 passengers.

The said explosion resulted in wounding four (4) passengers who were immediately brought to the nearest hospital. Two were already discharged while the other 2 victims were brought to Cotabato Regional and Medical Center and are now in a stable condition.

The PNP immediately secured, cordoned, and processed the crime scene wherein another IED was discovered and was successfully disrupted by the PNP Explosives Ordnance Disposal Team.

Meanwhile, other passengers were properly evacuated and secured by the PNP responding team.

“While we express our heartfelt sympathy to the wounded, we assure them of our keen resolve and commitment to bring to justice those responsible for this uncivil attack on persons”, Carlos said.

“A thorough investigation including the review of CCTVs for identification of the person behind the IED explosion was initiated to possibly identify any Person of Interest (POI)”, he added.

The PNP calls for the help of the public to any information that may help police to identify the suspects and prevent any similar incident from happening again. (ai/mtvn)
