MANILA — Senatorial candidate Guillermo Eleazar supports the move to provide a health insurance policy for students.

This came after Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) chairperson Prospero De Vera met with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) and university representatives and officials from universities to discuss the health insurance policy.

In an interview by Maharlika TV News, Eleazar, a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief now running for senator under Partido Reporma, noted that the health insurance policy could be of great help to ensure the wellness of students amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Asked about how the country’s former Top Cop plans to concretize the proposed student health insurance policy, Eleazar opined that an additional budget could be appropriated by the Department of Health (DoH) and the DepEd to finance the policy.

In addition, he cited that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) could play a significant role in this by determining where the government would get the budget for the student health insurance policy.
