CORDOVA, Cebu — Apparently emboldened by his winning over a 47-year-old political dynasty, Mayor-elect Cesar “Didoy” Suan on Friday dared his rival, incumbent Mayor Mary Therese “Teche” Sitoy-Cho to prove her accusations of fraud in the recently-concluded polls.
Suan pointed out that his victory over Sitoy-Cho was only evident that the residents of Cordova really wanted change as the small municipality on the island of Mactan has been ruled by the Sitoy family for 47 long years.
“The people of Cordova have defeated Sitoy. And I am honored to have been chosen to be the person who will carry their voices through,” Suan said.
Sitoy-Cho is the daughter of former Cordova mayor and Presidential Legal Liason Office (PLLO) Secretary Adelino “Addy” Sitoy who would have run for congressman in the adjacent Lapu-Lapu City if not for his demise due to cardiac arrest last April 14 at the age of 85 years old.
However, re-elected Lapu-Lapu City Vice Mayor Celsi Sitoy is the younger brother of the late PLLO Secretary and uncle of the defeated mayor of this town.
Sitoy-Cho is reportedly poised to file electoral fraud charges against Suan before the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“I am not frightened by her accusations because I did not do such things. Honestly, I am clean and my conscience is clear. We had a peaceful and honest election. We are ready and we will answer in a proper forum all the questions. If her (Sitoy-Cho) supporters will protest, we will welcome everything and we will work hand in hand to make Cordova better, to make Cordova what they have hoped for,” Suan further said.
An incumbent town councilor, Suan got 21, 222 votes against Sitoy-Cho who only garnered 17,052 votes last elections.
On the other hand, Suan’s running mate, Boyet Tago, defeated incumbent vice mayor Ximgil “Em-Em” Sitoy, for the town’s second top post. (ai/mtvn)
