MANILA — Mayor Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor-elect Yul Servo have distributed financial aid to the families whose houses were razed down by a fire in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila recently.
Social welfare chief Re Fugoso said that based on reports, hundreds of houses were gutted down to ashes during the said fire that occurred on the evening of May 19.
Fugoso said a total of 277 families received P10,000 each from Moreno, who told them that it was the city government’s little way of helping them start all over again.
“Para sa mga kababayan kong nasunugan, pumanatag po kayo dahil may gobyerno po kayong masasandalan at kakalinga sa inyo. Hinding-hindi ko kayo pababayaan,” Moreno said.
The Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the said fire hit the area at 7:40 p.m.
The fire was said to have started in the two-storey residential home of a certain Juliet Mongado. It reached fourth alam and was declared fire- out at 12:02 a.m.
Probers said the firefighters had a hard time putting out the fire due to the narrowness of the alleys.
No one was reported hurt or killed in the fire that left an estimated P1 million damage to property.
