LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Taking notice that Western Visayas workers got higher wage increase than those in Central Visayas, the Alyansa sa mga Mamumuo sa Sugbo-Kilusang Mayo Uno (AMA Sugbo-KMU) on Wednesday tagged the approved P31 wage hike a “big insult” to Cebuano workers.
On Tuesday, May 24, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-Central Visayas approved the P31 increase in basic pay, while the RTWPB-Western Visayas pegged a P55 increase in wage in employers with more than 10 workers, and P110 for those employing 10 or less workers.
Jaime Paglinawan, chairperson of AMA Sugbo-KMU, pointed out that P31 wage hike granted by the wage board in Central Visayas is a “big insult” to the workers who know the real prices and the expensiveness of consumer goods here in the region.
AMA Sugbo-KMU also pressed for the P750 national minimum wage.
With the decision of the wage board in Central Visayas, Metro Cebu workers (agricultural and non-agricultural) called class A will now receive P435 in pay from P404, while those under Class B, which previously earned P366 per day, will now get P397.
The so-called Class C workers who earned P356 daily will now get P387.
Also approved was an increase of P500 for domestic workers in Central Visayas.
Those working in first-class municipalities and chartered cities can now earn P5,500 per month while those working elsewhere can now earn P5,000. (ai/mtvn)
