MANILA — The Director of Operations, PMGEN VALERIANO DE LEON, stated that the canvassing of votes and proclamation of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and Sara Duterte as the winners of the presidential and vice-presidential elections at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City went smoothly.
The canvassing of votes began on Tuesday, May 24, and concluded at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, May 25, followed by the proclamation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice-President Sarah Duterte-Carpio.
“Organized, tahimik at mahusay ang pagka-plano sa canvassing at proclamation,” added De Leon.
De Leon stated that the PNP deployed enough Civil Disturbance and Management (CDM) personnel in anticipation of protest actions to ensure peace and order in the area.
Although there was an incident involving clashes between PNP CDM personnel and protesters, De Leon stated that the problem was addressed immediately and that the security preparations went as planned.
De Leon also responded to protest organizers who stated that the deployment of police officers along Commonwealth Avenue was exaggerated.
“There is no such thing as exaggerated action. ‘Baka naman kapag wala kayong makitang pulis ay magagalit kayo, pero tama lang naman ang personnel na dineploy ng NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office) dito, “said De Leon.
In addition, he lauded the PNP CDM contingents for handling the protesters with maximum tolerance.
De Leon stated that they will focus their preparations on the inauguration of Marcos and Duterte next month, as the canvassing of votes and proclamation of winners in the presidential and vice-presidential elections have been completed. (ai/mtvn)
