Senator-elect JV Ejercito debunks Inquirer report on PRRD’s involvement in Pharmally scandal

Fact-Check: Inquirer reports that Senator-elect JV Ejercito said that President Rodrigo Duterte is allegedly involved in the controversial multi-billion-peso Pharmally scandal.

On June 3, 2022, the Inquirer posted a photo of President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator-elect JV Ejercito on their Twitter account, along with a story claiming that Sen. JV Ejercito said that President Duterte is engaged in the infamous Pharmally scandal involving at least P10B worth of contracts spanning between 2020 and 2021 at the height of the Covid pandemic.

Although the tweet was later deleted, it quickly disseminated on social media with the quote “Senator-elect JV Ejercito said he believes that President Rodrigo Duterte is involved in the controversial Pharmally scandal.”

On May 26, 2022, the same day after a few minutes, Senator-elect JV Ejercito assailed Inquirer’s tweet.

On his Twitter account, Sen. JV Ejercito said the article is wrong. He claimed that what he said is he doesn’t believe that President Duterte is directly involved.

“This is wrong. I said I don’t believe he (President Duterte) is directly involved” Sen. Ejercito said.

Meanwhile, Senator-elect JV Ejercito made the following response when asked about the Pharmally controversy by CNN Philippines.

“Not to protect the President but knowing him, he really has a simple lifestyle. I don’t think he will be involved in this,” Ejercito told CNN Philippines.

Despite the fact that the Inquirer tweet was removed, it was already seen or viewed by a large number of people who had a variety of reactions.

One of them is a Twitter user, “Oryang Lakambini” who said, “Ayusin ninyo naman pamamahayag ninyo. Akusa kayo ng akusa sa mga blogger ng peddlers ng fake news ay KAYO IYANG FAKE NEWS. baka kayo KASUHAN NI @jvejercito ng LIBEL. Grabe kayo ang fake news” Oryang Lakambini tweet caption.”

The identical Inquirer item was issued again on the same day, but this time it was assured that the bits of information was right.
