Manila — Netizens have mixed reactions on the Quezon City Council’s latest resolution declaring actress Ai-Ai Delas Alas and cinematographer Darryl Yap persona non grata in the above-mentioned city.
Some netizens declared their support for the resolution that was passed during yesterday’s session of the City Council while others claimed that public officials must not be onion-skinned and must accept criticisms.
However, the City Council pointed out that Delas Alas and Yap did not only disrespect Mayor Joy Belmonte but the whole of Quezon City.
Yesterday, the City Council signed a resolution declaring Yap and Delas Alas “persona non grata” for disrespecting the city’s official seal in a video posted on social media.
The resolution passed by District IV Councilor Ivy Lagman was approved by the City Council.
Lagman’s resolution came from the two minutes and 21 seconds video posted on Yap’s Vincentiments Facebook Page, featuring Delas Alas portraying a cast name “Ligaya Delmonte.”
Evidently featured in the background of the video is the official triangular seal of Quezon City, with its visual elements edited and defaced.
“The malicious and unscrupulous defacing of the official seal of Quezon City ridiculed and casted dishonor to it, causing insult to the noble representation of the seal,” Lagman stressed.
“The people of Quezon City will not let anyone disgrace the official seal of Quezon City for personal and selfish interests,” she added, highlighting that the seal has been the official coat of arms of the city since it was signed by the Office of the President and adopted by the City Council on Feb. 3, 1997 via Resolution No. 10320, S-1975.
