MANILA — PMGEN VALERIANO T. DE LEON, Philippine National Police Director of Operations, together with PBGEN ALLAN NOBLEZA, DDO, PBGEN LIMUEL OBON, EX-0, PBGEN RONNIE FRANCIS CARIAGA, and PCOL GIDEON DY, C, SOD of the Directorate for Operations, were awarded for their significant role in ensuring the peaceful and credible conduct of the recent national and local elections (May 9, 2022).

On Monday, June 20, Secretary Eduardo Ano of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) pinned the Medalya ng Pambihirang Paglilingkod after the Flag-Raising Ceremony last Monday at Camp Crame in Quezon City.

As the Deputy Commander of the National and Local Elections 2022, De Leon was in charge of making sure that security measures were put in place all over the country as early as the election period began on January 9, 2022.

De Leon went so far as to personally supervise the security measures in several areas included in the election areas of concern in Mindanao, including taking control of the situation in Tubaran, Lanao del Norte, on May 9, when several men caused trouble.

De Leon was also present in Tubaran town for the conduct of special elections in a number of its barangays.

De Leon stated, “I am grateful for this recognition and consider it a bonus, as what is most important to me is that the May 2022 polls were more peaceful and orderly than previous elections.”

“Allow me to add, however, that the sacrifices and hard work of our personnel on the ground contributed to the effectiveness of our election security measures.” This award is dedicated to each and every one of them, “he said.

The implementation of effective strategies during the 2022 election period resulted in the lowest number of election-related violent incidents compared to previous national and local elections.

De Leon ensured that all attempts to sabotage the election results, including as vote-buying, threats, and intimidation, were thwarted. (ai/mtvn)
