LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Apparently imitating President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on granting free rides, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan on Tuesday disclosed that his local government will also be offering free rides to the city’s constituents anytime soon.
In his Facebook post, Chan said that due to the rising cost of fuel, he noticed that some of his constituents opted to remain at home and even chose to forego even important matters.
Some public utility vehicles (PUVs) are even forced to stop plying their routes, the mayor further noted.
On July 1, PBBM approved the memo presented by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista extending the free EDSA Carousel bus rides until December.
The President also granted free rides for students who will be using the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2), and Philippine National Railways (PNR) when in-person classes resume in August.
Chan assured that the Libreng Sakay is open for every Oponganon or Lapu-Lapu City resident to ride.
Public Information Office (PIO) chief Mark Anthony Bautista (not the actor) said the city government has five coaster units but for now, only three will be used for Chan’s Libreng Sakay program. (ai/mtvn)
