CEBU CITY — Heeding the marching order of Mayor Michael Rama to transform the reputed Queen City of the South into a Singapore-like urban center in his first 100 days, convenors of the upcoming “mobility summit” have been conducting marathon meetings to study the transportation and traffic system of the Lion City of Asia.

Lawyer Kent Francesco Jongoy, head of the technical working group (TWG) of the upcoming “mobility summit”, said it is important to look into Singapore’s systems and see what can be applied to this city.

Jongoy is the executive assistant of Councilor James Anthony Cuenco who is the chairman of the City Council’s Committee on Transportation and Communication.

“We have to check on the public transportation system in Singapore and the traffic management in Singapore. Let’s check on their background, mobility-wise,” Jongoy said during the TWG meeting on Monday afternoon.

Initially called a “traffic summit,” it was renamed to “mobility summit” to make it more comprehensive.

Lawyer Rico Rey Francis “Koko” Holganza, the newly appointed chairperson of the Cebu City Traffic Management and Coordination Committee, also attended the TWG meeting.

Others who attended were Architect Ann Marie Cuizon of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) OIC Paul Gotiong, Sugbo Bike Lanes Board (SBLB) Chairperson Bernard Maraasin, and Office of the Mayor Special Assistant Reymarr Hijara.

The “mobility summit” is slated to be held within the next two months. (AI/MTVN)
