Randy Santiago’s kids surprised to know their father is popular in the US

MANILA—In an interview with veteran singer-host Randy Santiago during the kiddiecon of Sing Galing Kids which was launched on July 16, Saturday, he shared about his concert tour in the United States after the election, May up to June, 2022.

“Buong May hanggang June,” Randy said during the kiddiecon held at the Mesa restaurant in Vista Mall, Taguig City.

Randy said he was so careful during the said US tour because of Covid-19. He had his working permit. He brought along his sons Raphael at Raiko.

The singer-actor was so elated to tell the story how the Filipino community missed Pinoy performers.

Did they know that Willie Revillame, who is so popular now, used to be one of his “hawi boys” during their father’s heyday”

The 61-year old singer smiled when asked, “did your sons know that?”

Until his 31-year old son Raphael asked when they saw and asked him “Paps?! Bakit ka hinahabol sa mall?” did he realize his father is still popular among the Filipino community in the US. Randy just smiled.

“Kumbaga siyempre, magtataka sila, ‘Randy, is that you?!’ ‘Hey, hey, guys! It’s Kuya Randy!’

“Gumaganun sila, so, natatawa sila. Lalo na si Raiko, twenty years old na siya.”

Prefers to perform in small venues

Asked what were his hit songs that was still popular during his concert tour which really captured his audience, Randy said, “E, lahat naman, e! Kung ano man ang bitawan mong kanta. Of course, I choose the songs I sing, di ba?” related Randy.

“’Hindi Magbabago’ at ‘Babaero,’ siyempre. Yung ‘Babaero,’ para sa kalalakihan pero siyempre, yung mga Titas of U.S.A., nakasuporta sa atin.

“How he was accepted by the audience was videoed and showed everybody wanted to embrace him.

“Ako nga ang natatakot dahil wala silang face mask! Sabi ko, ‘Ang tatapang niyo, ah?! Papaano naman ako?!’ Ganun.”

He said he was already contented to perform in small venues like bars and restaurant.

And then, e-exit na ako.

“Pagkatapos nun, kakain na kami, mag-iinuman na kami. Mga ganun, parang ganun, and that’s what’s happening in the U.S.

“Mas gusto ang maliliit. Kunyari ngayon, may show ka. The next day, hindi pagod yung…hindi ka nenerbyusin na baka, ‘Mapupuno ko ba ‘to?’ Tatlong libo, o dalawang libong… theater. Kakaba-kaba ka.

“E, pag mga 250-seater, alam mong puno yun sigurado. Saka laging, ‘Sold out na! Puwede ka bang bumalik dito?!’

“Of course, I did New York, I did Tampa, Jacksonville, Portland. Of course, L.A., Las Vegas.

“Kung ano man yung meron kang ibibigay na pointers and everything, which I’m very proud to say, lahat po sila, merong ganung klaseng katangian.

K Brosas butted in, “What more kung dalawang buong mata pa yan?!”

“Of course!” Randy, dubbed Mr. Shades of local showbiz, quipped.

“So ayun, whatever I can give for them, na kaya nilang tanggapin, iyun po ay ibibigay ko.”

Queenay and Sing Galing’s Ultimate Bida-oke grand champion Mari Mar Tua will be the “Arkidia Ates” who will be hanging out with the kiddie contestants.

“Syempre, abangan niyo, may special role kami dine. Dapat n’yong abangan (yung show)! Nakaka-excite talaga.”
