VALENZUELA – The rising prices of commodities is not a deterrent to all business owners.

Take the case of Mang Romy’s Lugawan in Valenzuela for instance. In here, you can enjoy a bowl of hot “lugaw” (rice porridge) for a measly ₱2.

Today, a ₱2 money can buy you two pieces of candy or one piece of pandesal. But at Mang Romy’s Lugawan, the price of his “lugaw” remains stable.

Mang Romy, as everyone calls him, established his “lugawan business in 1974. It is located at Pio Valenzuela street in Valenzuela City.

In his now viral video on YouTubel channel, Mang Romy challenged those who are skeptical to try his “lugaw”, and if they are now satisfied then they need not pay for the porridge. “Kapag ‘di niyo nagustuhan, iwanan niyo na dahil talagang dalawang piso. Wala ng halaga ‘yung dalawang piso ngayon,” he stated.

He said that his ₱2 “lugaw” is for the families who cannot afford to buy three square meals a day. “Hindi lahat ng tao ay kayang magpakain ng isang malaking pamilya. Tulad halimbawa ng may limang anak, sa halagang ₱10 ay mabubusog mo na sila. Hindi lahat ng tao sumasahod ng minimum na halos ₱600.”

Mang Romy explained that he still gets to earn when other customers orders others products like “tokwa’t baboy” where he makes for the losses he gets when serving P2 “lugaw”.

“I still earn, that is why I did not choose to increase the price of my “lugaw”. There are many people who aren’t earning enough and I want to offer affordable food for them.”

So if you’re hungry and only has ₱2 to spare, try eating “lugaw” at Mang Romy’s Lugawan!
