MALACAÑAN PALACE — Not only government agencies are being eyed for ‘rightsizing’ as at least 1.3 million beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have been slashed from the list of those qualified to receive assistance from government.

This was learned following President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. (PBBM)’s meeting with his Cabinet in Malacañan Palace where basic education, social welfare, and other matters of national interest were discussed.

According to press secretary Rose Beatrix ‘Trixie’ Cruz-Angeles, in the meeting, con-current education secretary ‘Inday’ Sara Duterte-Carpio also laid out her priority programs and projects for basic education while social welfare and development secretary Erwin Tulfo presented his own programs and projects for social welfare.

“Of note is (DSWD) Sec. Erwin Tulfo’s declaration that in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program at least 1.3 million beneficiaries out of 4.4 are no longer considered “poor” as a qualification for the 4Ps benefits,” Cruz-Angeles disclosed.

“This frees up P15B for other qualified persons to replace them and now be included in the said program,” she added.

The press secretary clarified that since 4Ps is a conditional cash transfer program that targets to benefit the ‘poorest among poor families’, only those who have been specifically identified by government as belonging to this strata should be given the health, nutrition and education assistance programmed for impoverished sectors.

Beneficiaries of 4Ps are selected through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), which identifies who and where the poor are in the country and if a household has three children, it may receive P1,400 every month under the program. ((ai/mtvn)
