PAOAY, Ilocos Norte – Tourists going to Ilocos Norte will be treated with delight as a stack of solar-powered stones and mirror installations were constructed to highlight the vast sand dunes in Barangay Suba in Paoay.
The care and maintenance of the tourist attractions are being managed by the municipality of Paoay and the Paoay Sand Dunes Cooperative through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Ilocos Norte provincial government.
The Paoay sand dunes are one of the famous tourist attractions of the north. It is also a popular filming destination for local and international production companies. Several activities that tourists and locals can enjoy in the area are dune-bashing, sand boarding, and riding a 4×4 jeepney or an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) ride.
The desert has an area of 88-square kilometers of wind-formed sand dunes.
Outdoor concerts are also held including the yearly celebration of the annual “Himala sa Buhangin.”
The province continues to promote new normal attractions in various municipalities to attract more tourists and generate more jobs and revenue for the local residents.
Ilocos Norte is the first and only province to receive a safe travel stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council. (ai/mtvn)
