CEBU CITY — Cebuanos on Thursday take pride for the presidential appointment of their fellow Cebuano former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official Yogi Filemon Ruiz as the new chief of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. sworn into office yesterday 20 July 2022, Yogi Filemon Ruiz as Acting Commissioner, Bureau of Customs,” Press Secretary Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles confirmed in a statement.
On Wednesday, Cebu-based online news site NewStar Philippines broke the news that Ruiz was appointed by PBBM on that day but was not immediately confirmed by Malacañang.
A civilian, Ruiz, succeeds retired military general Rey Leonardo “Jagger” Guerrero as the new chief of BOC.
Considered an insider,Ruiz served as BOC Enforcement and Security Services (ESS) Director before he was surprisingly handpicked by the President.
Prior to his stint at BOC, Ruiz was PDEA Regional Director in Region 7 (PDEA-7). (ai/mtvn)
