MANILA — Stressing that now is the time for unity, a well-respected legal luminary on Sunday called on the Filipino people to set aside political differences and unite behind the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Lawyer Nilo Divina issued his statement on the eve of PBBM’s first-ever State of the Nation Address (SONA) and on the heels of crude attempts to spread “fake news” on the supposed resignation of Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez who has denied such rumor.

“Now is the time for unity. We have finally reached the ending chapter of the pandemic. While the country prepares for the gargantuan task of recovery and rebuilding, there is nothing more crucial than to unite under one decisive and responsive leadership,” Divina said.

He clarified that he issued the statement not in his capacity as dean of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Faculty of Civil Law and as the Managing Partner of DivinaLaw, but in his “personal capacity as a concerned citizen.”

“As poverty, inflation, increasing and economic uncertainties loom not just in the Philippines but all over the world, now is the time to set aside political differences and animosity in order to prioritize meaningful work. As we sail towards progress as one nation, let us all remember that we are in the same boat. We need to unite behind our captain and his crew to reach our destination,” Divina pointed out.

He noted that the “able leadership” of PBBM, including his key officials and cabinet members, “inspires confidence that we are in the right direction.”

Divina particularly hailed the appointment of Rodriguez as Executive Secretary.

Rodriguez was Divina’s UST Law student before.

“… (O)ne of the key public officials in our country, the Honorable Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez has a profound sense of integrity and love for this country. Vic, who was my student at the University of Sto. Tomas has extensive knowledge of the law and excellent management skills,” Divina bared.

“As dignified Filipinos, we should protect our social integrity, and promote a just and dynamic social order. In this day and age when the truth can be distorted, let us commit to the pursuit of truth at all times. We must not subscribe to any falsehood as it will only negate our aspiration for unity,” the highly-esteemed legal expert said.

He added that the new administration needs the support of the entire Filipino people in the next six years.

“Cooperation is needed to rebuild the country’s economy, fortify the ramparts of the democratic system and attain social harmony. Woodrow Wilson once said ‘We cannot be separated in interest or divided in purpose. We stand together until the end.’ Together, let us all work for a better and stronger Philippines,” Divina concluded.

Press Statement: Now is the time for unity

Now is the time for unity. We have finally reached the ending chapter of the pandemic. While the country prepares for the gargantuan task of recovery and rebuilding, there is nothing more crucial than to unite under one decisive and responsive leadership.

While I do not speak in my capacity as dean of the University of Sto. Tomas Faculty of Civil Law and as the Managing Partner of Divina Law, I issue this statement with sincerity and conviction in my personal capacity as a concerned citizen.

As poverty, inflation, increasing, and economic uncertainties loom not just in the Philippines but all over the world, now is the time to set aside political differences and animosity in order to prioritize meaningful work. As we sail towards progress as one nation, let us all remember that we are in the same boat. We need to unite behind our captain and his crew to reach our destination.

The able leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., including his key officials and cabinet members, inspires confidence that we are in the right direction. Part of this confidence comes from knowing first-hand that one of President Marcos’s first appointees and one of the key public officials in our country, the Honorable Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez has a profound sense of integrity and love for this country. Vic, who was my student at the University of Sto. Tomas has extensive knowledge of the law and excellent management skills.

As dignified Filipinos, we should protect our social integrity, and promote a just and dynamic social order. In this day and age when the truth can be distorted, let us commit to the pursuit of truth at all times. We must not subscribe to any falsehood as it will only negate our aspiration for unity.

The new administration needs the support of the entire Filipino people in the next six years. Cooperation is needed to rebuild the country’s economy, fortify the ramparts of the democratic system and attain social harmony.

Woodrow Wilson once said “We cannot be separated in interest or divided in purpose. We stand together until the end.

Together, let us all work for a better and stronger Philippines.
