MANILA — Determined to wipe out hunger and poverty, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged the two houses of Congress to pass a law on agrarian reform debt burden even as he keep his sight on modern farming.

“Congress must also pass a law that will emancipate agrarian reform beneficiaries from the agrarian reform debt burden,” the President said in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA).

He noted that there are agrarian reform beneficiaries who are still to receive their awarded land under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

The President stressed that they “shall receive it without any obligation to pay any amortization.”

“Pagtitibayin natin ang value chain na nagsisimula mula sa mga magsasaka hanggang sa mamimili,” he earlier said.

The President said: “Prayoridad natin ang modernisasyon ng mga sakahan.”

“Gagawa tayo ng national network ng farm-to-market roads,” he added. (ai/mtvn)
