SAN JUAN, METRO MANILA — Living up to its ‘never-say-die’ reputation, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel refused to go down in Game 2 in the quarterfinals of the PBA Philippine Cup conference as it stood off the Meralco Bolts for a 94-87 win at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

This time the Gin Kings displayed their truly aggressive side to equalize the series and force a rubber match this Sunday, July 31, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ginebra point guard Japeth Aguilar finished with a game-high 25 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks while teammate Christian Standhardinger tallied 15 markers and 12 boards. LA Tenorio, who was held scoreless in Game One, wound up with 13 points and Scottie Thompson had 11 markers, nine assists, and six rebounds.

“I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to match their (Meralco) will tonight and hopefully we can do it again,” Gin Kings’ head coach Tim Cone enthused following his wards’ sensational victory over the Bolts.

“It was a match today. It was physical, rough and tumble, (even) blood on the floor,” Cone added.
