MT. PROVINCE RECORDS FIRST FATALITY FROM EARTHQUAKE

BENGUET — Search and Rescue operation by the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and volunteer residents of Benguet recovered the body of Andres Sagayo, a 59-year-old male, from Pactil, Monamon Sur.

He was retrieved from a landslide that occurred in Sitio Boga, Monamon Sur, Bauko. Reports from relatives said that he was attending a wake when the incident happened.

Rescue workers immediately rushed him to the Lutheran Hospital in Abatan, Buguias, Benguet but the victim was declared Dead on Arrival (DOA).

The landslide occurred around 10:00 am today, 28 July 2022, and the body was extracted from the slide around 11:30 AM and was immediately transported to the said hospital.

Authorities said that the landslide may have been caused by an aftershock.
The Mountain Province Police Provincial Office said that the victim died from asphyxiation from the soil erosion as diagnosed by attending physician Dra. Dolores Dicdican.

Rescue operations from the area were called off two (2) hours after the incident with no other fatality recorded. (ai/mtvn)
