LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Barely a week before the staging of the Aguila Ironman 70.3 Philippines in this highly urbanized city which will be participated in by 2,000 triathletes from 48 countries, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan here has blamed his predecessor for the unfinished road works that he anticipates could pose a serious challenge to the competitors.
Chan lamented that his administration cannot do anything about the projects because they were implemented through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) by former mayor Paz Radaza who lost as lone district representative to Chan’s wife Cindi last elections.
The Ironman triathlon was suspended for two years due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Usually attracting local and foreign tourists, the competition consists of three sports disciplines: swimming, biking, and running.
Radaza could not be reached for comment as of this posting. (ai/mtvn)
