MANILA — This season, basketball fans have seen a much improved San Miguel team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Conference as they saw the Beermen on top of the heap and waiting for their next opponent when the semifinal round starts this month.

San Miguel will either face Barangay Ginebra or Meralco—two teams that are currently battling out as of press time to get a chance to figure in the semis.

According to San Miguel Beer team manager Gee Abanilla, between the Gin Kings and the Bolts, he believes the Beermen will be in for a tough match-up.

“You’ve seen the level of play for both teams have gone up three notches higher and you saw how highly-physical Game 2 was. Coach Tim Cone was right in saying that it was a grown man’s game,” a highly expectant Abanilla pointed out.

“Things are going to be a lot physical when the tournament reaches the Final Four and over the past week, (we’ve) spent (our) time working on (our) game and preparing for the tough grind ahead,” he added.

In the Philippine Cup last season, the Beermen appeared just a win away from returning to the championship round, but they buckled down to the eventual champion, TNT Tropang Giga, who is currently the other early semifinalist in the ongoing tournament where they will face the winner between the Magnolia Timplados Hotshots and NLEX Road Warriors scrimmage.
