CEBU CITY — No worries, everything is under control even if the indefatigable Mayor Mike Rama caught novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) for the first time.

The city’s Public Information Office (PIO) disclosed in a Zoom press conference that Rama was supposed to be in Malacañang for a meeting today.

Rama did not make it because the mayor tested positive after a couple of RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests on July 31 and August 1.

Rama was asymptomatic on Tuesday, August 2, a day after he was photographed unmasked standing beside Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Vice Gov. Hilario “Junjun” Davide III and other mayors like Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, and some officials of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the opening of the 453rd Founding Anniversary celebration of the Province of Cebu at the Provincial Capitol in this city.

However, the city’s consultant for health and hospital operation, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, said there is nothing to worry about and the mayor is doing well.

She added that Rama is now in quarantine in his residence as part of the basic protocol for a fully vaccinated individual with a booster shot. (ai/mtvn)
