LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — All roads lead to this historic city, so to speak, as some 1,900 athletes coming from 46 countries around the world already arrived to join the much-awaited Ironman Philippines 70.3 event.

Since the competition consists of three sports disciplines swimming, biking, and running, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan asked pet owners and caretakers of animals such as dog, cat, cow, goat, chicken, among others, to avoid them from getting into the race courses.

The local chief executive said road closures will take place in Barangays Mactan, Punta Engaño, Maribago, Agus, Marigondon, and Subabasbas.

He earlier announced that there will be road closures on Sunday, August 7, from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. to ensure the safety of participants, which was why he urged the public to travel ahead of time.

Chan also warned the business establishments, including vendors, not to overprice their goods and services during the event which may turn off both local and foreign tourists. (ai/mtvn)
