MANILA — Revealing that it was the late President Fidel V. Ramos who was the first to convince him to run in the 2016 presidential elections, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Thursday paid his last respects to the Chief Executive who popularized the “Kaya Natin ‘to” slogan.
Citizen Duterte was accompanied by his “loyalists” former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, former chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo, and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
“He was the first guy who egged me to run,” Duterte disclosed to some reporters after visiting the wake of Ramos at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.
This time, the former president appeared to be serious and not joking.
“When he pushed me to run, he was the first one to contribute the money. That is the fondest memory of FVR I have,” Duterte quipped. (AI/MTVN)
