LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Honored that this historic city was chosen as venue of the prestigious Ironman 70.3 Philippines, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has assured participants that the route for the triathlon competition is now safe.
During the press conference on Friday, August 5, at the Mactan Newtown, Chan proudly announced that the stalled drainage projects have now been finished making the route for the competition safer for the athletes on Sunday, August 7.
He noted that after the devastation of the pandemic and super typhoon Odette last December, the city’s economy is slowly recovering.
“The city of Lapu-Lapu will always support this event. This gives us a giant leap for our economy to bounce back,” Chan said.
For her part, the mayor’s wife Congresswoman Cindi King-Chan welcomed the triathletes, guests and spectators who came here in this city.
“This has been a long time coming. We have waited for two years; we have not travelled and we have been on lockdowns. Now, we are recovering and restarting our economy and the tourism industry,” King-Chan said. (ai/mtvn)
