CALOOCAN CITY, Metro Manila — In line with Caloocan City mayor Dale Gonzalo ‘Along’ Malapitan’s advocacy of activating the youth to worthy activities of self-development, the city’s Sports Development and Recreation Office (SDRO) has launched a free sports camp to train and develop the younger generation’s skills in basketball, chess, swimming, futsal, karate and taekwondo.
In an interview, SDRO chief Dindo Simpa explained that they had set up the training camp in order to fulfill Mayor Malapitan’s desire to make the youth more active and also to support the local chief executive’s leadership thrust of an ‘inclusive’ administration that would include the youth in participatory initiatives for social development.
“This is Mayor Along’s way to give a sense of normalcy to our youth in Caloocan who have been quarantined inside their homes due to the restrictions implemented during the height of the pandemic.
In a Facebook post, Malapitan has been encouraging parents to enlist their children in the city government’s developmental and enhancement activities such as the newly launched sports training camp.
“(This would) help them learn new skills, meet new people and have fun at the same time,” the mayor pointed out
In conclusion, Simpa said that registration for the sports camp is still ongoing and can be accessed thru the link: bit.ly/CaloocanSports. (ai/mtvn)
