Attended by immediate family, relatives, fans, and friends, the remains of Sprint Queen Lydia De Vega were finally laid to rest at the Pandayan Memorial Park in Meycauyan, Bulacan on Wednesday, August 17, 2022,
Fondly called “Diay” by friends and the media, De Vega was once the fastest woman in Asia, winning the 100-meter gold medal in the 1982 and 1986 Asian Games and ruling the sprint double in the Asian Athletics Championship in 1983 and 1987.
She was also a nine-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
The Filipino sports legend died on August 10, 2022 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 57.
